About
Hi friends! I’m Alexandra.
Since I was young, I’ve loved observing the world around me and writing about it.
I spent the last decade working as a television news journalist, reporting and anchoring in Missouri, Texas and Nebraska. My last role was as the 5 PM anchor in Omaha. I loved my job, the stories I was fortunate enough to share and the people I got to work alongside.
I’ve also had the travel bug since a young age. From falling in love with the bustle of New York and D.C. in middle school, to studying abroad in Brussels, Belgium in college, I find great value in getting out and seeing the world. And, I’m lucky to have found a partner who shares that wanderlust!
Bret and I met years ago in Texas, and we got married in 2018. We did lots of domestic travel early in our relationship and in 2019, we took our first major international trip together. We had grand plans for travel in 2020, which of course, got canceled.
As I’m sure is true for many people, the pandemic really rocked us. It shifted our perspective, and it felt like all the ‘rules’ for how to navigate the world went out the window. Nothing is promised in this life. As Bret and I were making a major move to a new city and thanks to some flexibility with his job, we found ourselves with a unique opportunity to take some time to travel and see the world now. Not wait until retirement or the right time.
I should say, taking an extended period of time to travel is NOT something I would have expected myself to embark on. I happen to be pretty type A. I am an enneagram 6 through and through - planning for every possible outcome. I love a clear-cut, step by step process to follow in almost every sense. Bret and I are lucky enough to know several people who’ve done long-term travel, which made the whole thing seem possible. Perhaps we can do the same for someone else!
Outside of travel, I can’t live without my morning coffee. I love snail mail and sending sweet greeting cards. I have an affinity for both good books and bad reality TV. I think flowers, a good candle and cozy socks are the best mood-boosters. Summer is my favorite season, I always like to see the dessert menu and champagne is my preferred drink.
I’m so happy you’re here. I’ll be sharing all the ins and outs of our long-term travel from itinerary to packing to money. I’ve also included travel guides from other beloved spots and plenty of my favorite fashion and food finds.
I’d love to hear from you – please don’t hesitate to send questions my way.
And as my wise mother always says, ‘remember to sparkle’,
XO Alexandra
